keltena: Cog thinking seriously, hand on his chin. ([tos] heroes of legend)

To answer your last question first: It is the most useful thing. And by 'useful' I mean 'delightfully geeky while also fascinatingly thoughtful', but that's a bit of a mouthful.

Anyway... hmm! My Tarot knowledge is very limited (I tried to learn to read at some point with little luck, and nowadays I only remember the main points of most of the Major Arcana), but I really love what you have! The suit cards are tricky to decide on whichever way you slice it, probably because you could do a number of things with them; that said, I think you're on the right track with making them correspond to the 16 Pokemon elements. The "single type + 14 dual types" seems solid, and you could probably come up with other good ideas by kicking it around a bit if you want more options? I'm happy to discuss this stuff if you want; like I said, not a Tarot expert, but I can still help with brainstorming.

Re: the Major Arcana -- yes. Trainer's Journey in place of Fool's Journey is actually perfect and works remarkably well? "The Scholar" seems good, same with the PC inventor although that would indeed need an official name (Magician does seem like the place for it, though?), and I probably should not be giggling so much at Lovers becoming Rivals but I am because it's a really good parallel? I'm not as sure about Emperor/Empress, but the approach to take with those seems like it would involve examining their meanings and seeing what would fit with them; it doesn't have to be a boy/girl thing when it could just be whatever fits the roles (off the top of my head I have a vague idea that it could incorporate different occupations like breeder/coordinator/etc. but I don't actually know how that would hold up). And yeah -- in-universe disagreement over how the major cards are named and/or illustrated really brings it to life.

I wouldn't worry about the discovery of later-gen Pokemon either; from an in-universe standpoint, "they all existed all along, pretty much" is what makes sense even when it's not for the purpose of Tarot. I don't think that's something you need to worry about explaining for the most part.

... yes. Pokemon Tarot became TCG. That's exactly how it happened. (And for actual useful comments, type advantage is a great way for the original game to work. Like the girl in BW who plays rock-paper-scissors with you to memorize the type advantages, and other things like that!)

Anyway, wow that was tl;dr. But this is a pretty cool idea and it makes me excited, so... Hope you keep going with it!
